Vote 6th May

Cllr

Mary Lawes

Folkestone East

Tough on crime, illegal immigration and wasteful council spending. Vote for me and I will shake up our failing council.

Labour and the Conservatives stopped listening years ago

Whether the issue is leaving Europe and becoming a proud self-governing nation again, illegal migrants ignoring our rules and entering Folkestone by boats, or running the local council well and delivering value for money – politicians have completely lost touch.

We deserve locally elected representatives who understand how we feel and what our priorities are so they can help in a meaningful way.

You and your family deserve better

My priorities for our community

£1 billion debt crisis at Kent County Council

Council Spending 19/20

  • £543.5m – ADULT SOCIAL CARE
  • £187.7m – CHILDREN’S SOCIAL CARE
  • £118.3m – BORROWING COSTS
  • £86.3m – TRANSPORT
  • £81.2m – SCHOOLS AND HIGH NEEDS
  • £68.5m – PUBLIC HEALTH
  • £41.4m – HIGHWAYS

Complete list available at kent.gov.uk

£118.3 million spent on borrowing costs last year

    • that’s 2.8 times more spent than on our HIGHWAYS
    • 1.7 times more than on our PUBLIC HEALTH
    • 1.4 times more than on our SCHOOLS & HIGH NEEDS
    • and 1.3 times more than on our TRANSPORT

Just imagine the £118.3m spent elsewhere…

Social care and health services more widely available, potholes fixed, better maintained highways and improved buses… if those running the council had not plunged it into so much debt?

    {

Council Tax increased, £1bn council debt for us to pay for, affordable housing limited, roads in unsafe conditions and a flow of illegal immigration for good measure… what are the Conservatives and the Labour Party doing for Folkestone?

We desperately need some basic principles in the council. I will stand up for the interests of the people of Folkestone.

    Election Address

    My letter to you

    Dear Folkestone resident,

Now is the time to have your say: Do you think the council is doing a good job?

You may not have much time for politicians, most worry more about their careers than our concerns.

Whether the issue is leaving Europe and becoming a proud self-governing nation again, illegal migrants ignoring our rules and entering Folkestone by boats, or running the local council well and delivering value for money – the typical politician has completely lost touch.

We deserve locally elected representatives who understand how we feel and what our priorities are so they can help in a meaningful way.

My name is Mary Lawes and I’ve been a hard-working Councillor in Folkestone for the last five years. I don’t want a high-flying career in politics, I want to help. I am here, and the Foundation Party is here, because people like you are not being listened to and we believe something must be done.

We must take a stand against illegal immigration because our public services are under pressure and affordable housing is limited. It is deeply unfair on the local community.

We must take a stand against Kent County Council’s £1 billion debt and £118 million in borrowing costs every year. Council Tax for us, our children and their children cannot go up and up because of the council’s irresponsibility.

And we must take a stand against the appalling condition of our roads in Folkestone. How difficult is it to ensure that our roads are safe and fit for purpose? You and your family deserve much better.

Resolving these requires principles and leadership which is why Labour and the Conservatives can’t.

Whether you are voting by postal ballot or at the polling station on 6th May, please vote for Mary Lawes, the Foundation Party candidate, for a loyal common sense Councillor on your side.

    Warm regards,

    Cllr Mary Lawes
Candidate for Kent County Council, Folkestone East Division
